Progetto: REHABILITATION OF THE SIR OTTO BEIT SUSPENSION BRIDGE AT CHIRUNDU

The Otto Beit Bridge, was first constructed in United Kingdom in 1937. Once constructed, the bridge was transported from the UK across more than 7,000 miles by sea, rail and road, in ‘small’ sections to Chirundu. The bridge was opened the 24 of May 1939 to improve the traffic flow between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is the Africa’s first suspended bridge of its kind as its cables are built by straight parallel wires rather than twisted and this make of it the first case in the world outside the United States.
